Turok’s first two games come to Xbox One in March

An N64 classic returns to consoles

The first two Turok games — Dinosaur Hunter and Seeds of Evil — have gotten re-releases on Windows PC and now Nightdive Studios is ready to bring them to Xbox One.

Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and Turok 2: Seeds of Evil arrive on Xbox One on March 2, for $19.99 each. It’s some good news for Nightdive, which a week ago told Kickstarter donors that the $1.35 million effort to remake System Shock had gone “on a hiatus.”

Nightdive has been at work on Turok since 2015. Nightdive’s specialty has been in rescuing and refreshing beloved video game franchises that their original publishers have forsaken. Turok: Dinosaur Hunter was a fantastically weird title, pitting the player against prehistoric monsters with weapons ranging from a bow and arrows to a gatling gun.

As you can see, this isn’t a high-definition remaster. But Turok’s wildass premise really wouldn’t work without the 1990s goofiness of low-poly characters, infinite backgrounds, and one-size-fits-all textures. Look, you’ve got dinosaurs that not only breathe fire, they also carry firearms, so it’s not like anyone’s going for immersion here.
