French Duo Decodes Bitcoin QR From TV Broadcast

In an interview on French television, entrepreneur Roger Ver offered $1,000 worth of bitcoins (about 3 bitcoins at the time) to viewers. The only catch was the QR code was blurred out during most of the broadcast. Fortunately, two enterprising hackers took it upon themselves and noticed the code wasn't sufficiently blurred in parts of the video segment. The duo scanned and decoded the missing portions of the QR code, calculating 2.1 million possible combinations narrowing it down to two valid keys matching the bitcoin private keys. "The money is the cherry on the cake but the most exciting was when we found the private key and the algorithm told us this was the one," says Mr Sassano, adding that he has not yet withdrawn the money.
